Im trying to reinstall El CApitan on my 2008 iMac and i get errors. Namely, 'this item is temporarily unavaiable' and sometimes 'this boot disk is corrupt'. I formatted my usb drive in order to get around the corrupt message. However I dont know where I can get legitimate usb image of El Capitan. I hope you can help. Kind regards, Tim. I am a computer dummy having computer issues. A friend gave me a 24' iMac from 2009, and it worked fine when she gave it to me, using it for internet browsing. I shut it down, put it in storage for a year, and when I fired it back up a year later, it goes into a Kernel Panic reboot. I created hm an Apple ID, and Command+R and choose to Reinstall the OS but it keeps asking me for an Apple ID, I put in the one I created him and it gives me the dreaded 'this item is temporarily unavailable' message which I know to mean since he has no macOS associated with that ID it won't let me reinstall with his ID.
When I went to reinstall OS X El Capitan, It came up with a message saying 'this item is temporarily unavailable try again later.' I tried all the solutions I could find online including logging into icloud and then trying the installation again, resetting the date in the terminal, and going into internet recovery mode, none of which seemed to. I have connected it to wifi and am trying to install OS X by using the reinstall option but when I log in to the App Store it just says item temporarily unavailable. It seems to have decided that El Capitan 10.11 is what its looking for but cannot access it to download it.
