  1. Do you already have VLC installed? If so, you’re ready to go! If not, download and install VLC from here first, then proceed to step #2. Note: Installing VLC is a breeze, it’s free and open source, and the general consensus is that it’s the best media player for macOS. I strongly agree.
  2. Locate the .m3u file that your IPTV service provided you with. Right-click (ctrl-click) the file, select Open With and then VLC. If VLC is the default already, the next time you want to watch IPTV just double-click the .m3u file instead of right-clicking it. If it’s not the default but you’d like it to be, we have a guide that explains exactly how to make VLC your default .m3u App (opens in a new window/tab).
  3. VLC will open and start your TV stream right away. Yes, it’s that easy.
  4. Now you’ll want to change the channel :) Click the Show/Hide Playlist button from the bottom menu in VLC (see screenshot).
  5. If you don’t see a Show/Hide Playlist button don’t fret – just select Window from the main macOS menu, and then Playlist… from the drop-down menu.
  6. When you’re watching IPTV in VLC the Playlist view is actually the “channel listing” – double-click one of them to change the channel.
  7. Ta-da!
  8. You have to admit, that was remarkably simple :)

Internet Connection Speed for IPTV on Mac or IPTV on PC

Your internet connection and download speed are very important when it comes to watching streaming TV content. Most IPTV services require you to have at least 25-30 Mbps Internet connection (download speed). But what about when most people are home using the same Internet Service Provider that you’re using?

Iptv

During holidays, peak hours (home from work), special TV events are things to consider also. What about when you want to connect more than one device to the Internet TV service. Whether you are focusing on a watch IPTV on PC setup or watch IPTV on Mac setup, this is something to think about.

You can start with 25-30 Mbps if that’s all you have. If you have more, then that’s great. The main thing here is having optimal performance that eliminates experiencing buffering issues as much as possible. No one wants buffering issues when watching IPTV on PC or Mac computer — myself included.

I suggest you test your computer right now to see how much download speed you’re working with. Just visit speedtest.net and click the big GO button to run the test. If your download speed is lower than 25 Mbps, then you should contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) such as Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, FiOS, etc. You’ll have to pay more to increase your Internet connection speed (Mbps).

If your download speed is higher than 25 Mbps, than you may have enough. You can wait and see when entering into a free trial to watch IPTV on computer. I recommend having 2 or 3 times more Internet connection speed. You might want to connect two or more devices to the Internet TV service.

The bottom line is eliminating any chance of experiencing a buffering issue. However, there are times when having the right amount of Internet connection speed isn’t enough. Some buffering can occur here and there. Sometimes it can be corrected with your Internet connection and streaming content adjusting. You can try pausing the streaming content and playing it again to if that helps. If not, then you may want to use a VPN service that may help avoid buffering issues. More on VPN later.

VPN Service to Watch IPTV Online

Whether you want to watch IPTV on PC or IPTV on Mac, a VPN can serve two purposes: 1) It may help resolve buffering issues when it’s not your Internet connection speed causing the issue; 2) Helps hide your whereabouts online so that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or unscrupulous people don’t know what you’re doing online.

No one can track you online and see what websites you are visiting. Have you been noticing more an more annoying Spam emails coming your way? This is how you can ward off receiving anymore Spam emails. Again, this is optional. But if you want a solution and want to feel saver online, then I recommend using a good VPN service.
